Several national federations have proposed eight-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjørndalen as a candidate for the presidency of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The 52-year-old Norwegian shared this with Dagbladet.
“Many associations have approached me about this. They were European countries, but not from Eastern Europe,” Bjørndalen said, adding that he has not yet made a decision.

The current IBU president, Sweden’s Olle Dahlin, who has held the position since 2018, will not seek re-election. The election is scheduled for September.
Since 2022, Russian and Belarusian athletes have been suspended from competing in IBU-sanctioned events.
Bjørndalen is an eight-time Olympic gold medalist, a 20-time world champion, and a six-time overall World Cup winner.
