On May 7th, at the 2026 London World Team Table Tennis Championships, the Chinese women’s team faced South Korea in the quarterfinals. Wang Manyu, the 27-year-old, 1.76-meter-tall Chinese star, delivered a commanding performance against South Korea’s top player, Shin Yubin, winning 3-0 with game scores of 11-1, 11-4, and 11-4.
This victory extended Wang Manyu’s undefeated record against Shin Yubin to six matches in international competitions. Their most recent encounter was at the Macau Singles World Cup, where Wang Manyu had secured a 4-2 win.
From the start, Wang Manyu showcased aggressive attacking play, dominating the first game with sharp forehand shots and precise serves, leaving Shin Yubin with few opportunities. The first game concluded 11-1 in Wang Manyu’s favor.
In the second game, Wang Manyu continued her momentum, racing to a 3-0 lead. After Shin Yubin scored a point, Wang Manyu responded with a series of points. Commentator Yan An noted: “Wang Manyu’s three-shot combination is excellent, and she reads Shin Yubin’s game perfectly.” Despite Shin Yubin’s attempts to vary her tactics, Wang Manyu remained decisive, winning the second game 11-4 and taking a 2-0 lead.
The third game saw Shin Yubin start stronger, taking a 2-0 lead before a service error disrupted her rhythm. Wang Manyu quickly countered, scoring consecutive points to take a 5-2 lead, forcing Shin Yubin to call a timeout. Commentator Gao Han remarked: “Shin Yubin has been a tough opponent in singles and mixed doubles this year, but today Wang Manyu is simply flawless.”
After the timeout, Wang Manyu extended her lead to 5-2. Shin Yubin fought back with aggressive shots to make it 5-4, but Wang Manyu’s experience and solid fundamentals prevailed. She won the third game 11-4, completing a 3-0 sweep.
Over the three games, Shin Yubin, currently ranked 10th in the world, managed only nine points. This was Wang Manyu’s first shutout of Shin Yubin, who had previously won at least one game in all their meetings. Wang Manyu’s recent form has been exceptional; in the previous round of the Women’s Team Championship, she defeated Sweden’s Christina Källberg 3-0 (11-5, 11-0, 11-3), allowing only eight points.
