One team is chasing a dream, while the other is trying to escape a nightmare.
Getafe and Mallorca are living in opposite realities within the same context: LaLiga. With only three matchdays left, the season could feel endless depending on their own results and those of their rivals, as each club’s fate also partly depends on the outcomes of other teams fighting for the same objectives.
Getafe has definitively lost the hope of finishing fifth and qualifying for the Champions League. Now, with the coin in the air, they are waiting to see which side lands. Currently, the sixth-placed team earns a spot in the Europa League, and the seventh goes to the Conference League. However, that logic is not set in stone because it could change if Real Sociedad, which already secured a Europa League berth by winning the Copa del Rey, finishes sixth. In that case, the seventh-placed team would go to the Europa League and the eighth to the Conference League. Right now, Getafe is seventh (45 points) and Real Sociedad eighth (44 points). The final matchday clash between Getafe and Osasuna (42 points) could be explosive.
Bordalás: “No matter what happens, we have to celebrate the season we’ve had.”
On the opposite side is Mallorca, with relegation biting at their heels. They are tied on 39 points with Elche, Levante, Espanyol, and Girona—the latter currently occupying a relegation spot. In the last two matchdays, Mallorca will face two teams involved in the relegation battle: Oviedo and Levante.
