Cardiff City have finalized a permanent deal for goalkeeper Nathan Trott, following his successful loan spell from Copenhagen that helped the club secure promotion.
The transfer fee, officially undisclosed, is understood to be around £1.5m as stated in the initial loan agreement. Trott has signed a three-year contract, keeping him with the Bluebirds until the summer of 2029.
Trott joined Cardiff last summer and played 41 League One matches, playing a pivotal role in the team’s immediate return to the Championship.
“This is something I’ve been eager to finalize,” Trott said on the club’s official website. “Throughout the season, I think we were all on the same page to get this done, so having it completed now feels fantastic.”
The 27-year-old recorded 16 clean sheets and produced several outstanding saves, earning him a nomination for Cardiff’s player of the season award. His composure on the ball has also stood out, assisting head coach Brian Barry-Murphy in implementing an expansive playing style.
Trott attributes some of his ball-playing abilities to his early days playing in midfield and defense while growing up in Bermuda. A chance move to goalkeeping, prompted by a teammate’s injury during an under-15 tournament, led to a recommendation to West Ham United from the club’s Bermudian former striker, Clyde Best.
During his five-year stint with the Hammers, Trott gained experience through loan spells at AFC Wimbledon, French side Nancy, and Danish club Vejle before joining Copenhagen in 2024. Now, he has the opportunity to become a permanent part of Cardiff’s squad.
“This is the ideal group to be part of,” he added. “Under Brian, we have a solid mix of players, including a strong core of young talent, the Welsh contingent, and some experienced players. We all gel together really well. I’ve felt the support from the fans since the first game, and it’s only grown with each match. Knowing they’re behind me, especially in away games, makes it easier to perform. It’s a unique environment, a special group of fans, and a great city. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey.
“I’m excited for the Championship. It’s a great opportunity to prove myself at a higher level. Everyone saw what I can do this season, but I believe there’s much more to come, and I can’t wait to get started.”
